The Mitra Stay
"Mitra" in Sanskrit means a friend.
मित्र (mitra) — a companion; in Vedic thought, Mitra is the Sun, guardian of harmony (ṛta), radiating a benevolence that sustains life and light - a spirit that means well for all it touches.
Rooted in this idea, MitraBnB presents The Mitra Stay - an experience shaped by care, responsibility, and the timeless belief of अतिथि देवो भवः.
For centuries, people in India travelled widely as pilgrims, seekers, scholars, and wanderers, moved by faith, learning, and purpose. In a time before inns and lodges, homes opened willingly to them, offering shelter, food, and rest. These were not transactions, but acts of shared humanity. To host a traveller was both duty and privilege.
The arriving guest, often unannounced, was received with respect and warmth. Caring for them was seen as honouring something greater - the journey itself.
With The Mitra Stay, we seek to carry this spirit into today’s India, thoughtfully and responsibly. Each home is chosen with care, each stay guided by attentiveness. We partner with homeowners who value cleanliness, restraint, and respect - homes where simplicity endures and hospitality is offered without excess or intrusion.
This is not about recreating the past, but carrying forward its values: trust over scale, care over convenience, responsibility over speed.
In every Mitra Stay, our intention is simple - to offer travellers and pilgrims a space that feels safe, calm, and considered; a home where one may pause, reflect, and continue their journey with ease.
This is our way of hosting.
This is The Mitra Stay.
